Nayra Ashraf A Tragedy

Published by daisylevs on

It is an unsafe time for women everywhere around the world. Men have recently been a menace to society, thinking their will is superior to others. Men have been inflicting some gruesome actions on the world lately, and Nayra Ashraf has sadly fallen victim to this toxic masculinity lingering in the air.

A tragedy has occurred in Egypt. The previous home of the powerful Cleopatra has turned into a country against women where FGM( female genital mutilation) still occurs. Nayra Ashraf, peace be upon her soul was brutally murdered outside her university gates.

Nayra Ashraf a student at the Mansoura University of Egypt, has fallen at the hands of her murderous classmate Mohamad Adel. On the dreaded Monday 20th of June 2022 Mohamad Adel asked for his classmate Nayras hand in marriage where she, a woman with her autonomy and choice, rejected him. A fight broke out between the two where Mr. Adel promptly shouted, ” If I can’t have you, I’ll kill you ” the last words Nayra heard before succumbing to the horrible fate Mohamad had imposed upon her after stabbing her to death.

Although this tragedy has occurred, a large sum of Egyptian media outlets have been blaming Nayra, stating that this wouldn’t have happened if she wore more respectful clothes or abstained from makeup. So the fault was hers because poor Mohamad Adel couldn’t control his manly urges and is in the right. Others stated that she deserved this fate because she was unholy in her way of dressing and maybe killing her was ” halal.” And some men decided that this wouldn’t have happened if women didn’t attend university and therefore they shouldn’t.

I refuse to even comment on the statements of such ignorance stated by these Egyptian media sources and thoughts of men. Egypt has been safer when ruled by pharaohs than its current ruler, who shall not be named ;).

What is happening in our world right now is truly scary. Women can not go to the street, school, or even the grocery store without fearing for their lives. I genuinely hope change is on the way.
